Jela studierte Fotografie in Zürich und Istanbul sowie Video in Luzern. Ihre Kurzfilme wurden an Festivals im In- und Ausland gezeigt wie Cannes Semaine de la Critique, Locarno Film Festival, IDFA, Hot Docs etc.
Sie ist Alumna der ZFF Masterclass, des GIFF New Talent Screens sowie des FEST Training Grounds. Jela ist Preisträgerin eines Atelierstipendiums des Kantons Zürich an der Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, sowie der Carte Blanche für den Trailer der Internationalen Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, und Teil des Regiekollektivs von «Les Novelles Èves», Gewinnerprojekt des CH-Dokfilmwettbewerbs des Migros Kulturprozents.
Jela war Jurymitglied mehrer Filmfestivals und Filmförderungen. Sie ist Vorstandsmitglied von Pro Short Verband Kurzfilm Schweiz, der Schweizer Jugendfilmtage sowie des Verbands Filmregie und Drehbuch Schweiz ARF/FDS.
2019 war Jela zu Gast in der Reihe «Meet the director» im Kino Xenix Zürich. Zu diesem Anlass schrieb Jenny Billeter, Co-programmleiterin des Xenix, einen schmeichelhaften Text über Jelas bisherige Arbeit.

Jela studied photography in Zurich and Istanbul, and cinema in Lucerne.
Her diploma film Kein Porno (No porn), originated from a disaster, first brought her into the festival circuit, and even earned her an invitation to give a talk on «Filmmakers Fuck Ups» at Go Short Festival Nijmegen (Netherlands). Her short films have been shown at festivals worldwide like Locarno Festival, IDFA, Hot Docs etc, more recently even to Cannes Critic’s Week, and won several awards. Jela is an alumna of the ZFF Masterclass, the GIFF New Talent Screen as well as the FEST Training Ground. She’s been awarded an artist residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, and was granted the Carte Blanche for the trailer of the International Short Film Festival Winterthur. She's been part of the directors collective of the documentary «Les Nouvelles Èves», which was released in Swiss cinemas in autumn 2021.
Jela has been a jury member of several film festivals, as well as film funds. She is a board member of Pro Short, the Swiss Short Film Association, as well as the Swiss film directors and screen writers association ARF/FDS.
